Claudio Chiraldez hopes Iago Aspas will stay at Celta Vigo for another season.
Celta Vigo coach Claudio Chiraldez believes Iago Aspas will play for another season at the club amid reports the 37-year-old forward will retire from playing at the end of the season, Cadena Cope reported on Friday.
Aspas is the best player in Celta Vigo’s history after more than a decade at the club and is the club’s all-time top scorer. At 37, he has struggled with recurring back injuries and there have been rumours he could call time on his playing career at the end of the season, but Chiraldez believes the player will have another season to play.
‘He knows his age and his back problems, but if he continues to play at the level he is at and stays healthy, he will continue to play because he feels the competition and he wants to win everything. As long as he continues to play at this level, I have no doubt he will continue to play,’ said Kiraldez.
Chiraldez has just extended his contract with Celta Vigo until the summer of 2027 after the 36-year-old, who took over from Rafael Benitez, helped the club avoid relegation and has continued to impress so far.
‘I sleep five hours a day. I’m very happy. I like what I do very much. That’s why I devote so much time to it. Eventually, it became my hobby. I feel the same way I did when I was a kid playing football in the PC League.’
‘We are going Register ufabet strong and well. Which makes us one with the club, but we are never afraid because the hardships of life are not related to football.’
